Periodo di durissimo lavoro, il blog ne soffre! Ecco comunque una pagina dall'albo di Julia che sto disegnando, una delle poche che non spoilera :-)

Mr. Blond's perspective grid trick

Ecco come procedo per una vignetta come questa: il primo passo è schizzare il disegno a matita con una 0,7/2B
Here's my process for this panel... The first step is sketching the layout with a 0,7mm/2B pencil
si tratta di una prospettiva a tre punti di fuga, nessun problema per i due punti lungo la linea dell'orizzonte, mentre mi risulta impossibile fissare il terzo, lungo l'asse verticale, perchè cade troppo lontano dal disegno e perfino dal tecnigrafo. In questi casi, se si vuol essere precisi, è meglio ricorrere ad una griglia.

Anni fa chiesi ad un mio caro amico, l'ing. Mr. Blond, se poteva risolvere questo problema tecnico: come disegnare velocemente una griglia propsettica che si adattasse allo schizzo originario, per poi definirlo bene nel dettaglio. Il giorno dopo Mr.Blond mi fornì questa soluzione, empirica ed efficace...

that's a 3 vanishing points perspective, no problem here for the ones along the horizon, but in this case, however, it's impossible to trace the vertical vanishing point because it falls so far from the panel that the drawing board is just too small... A good way out is to trace a perspective grid instead.
Many years ago I asked a dear friend of mine, engineer Mr.Blond, if he could solve the problem for me - how to trace quickly that grid. He thought about it and the next day he came out with this process ...
Rispettando la prospettiva abbozzata nello schizzo disegno l'asse verticale ed una linea inclinata vicina ai margini della vignetta, poi misuro i segmenti A e B e faccio il rapporto:
Starting from my sketch, I draw an inclined line that fits the perspective I want, then I measure with a ruler the A & B segments and calculate the B/A ratio:

prossimo passo: partendo dall'asse verticale tacco i bordi come segue...

next step: starting from the vertical axis I mark the framelines as follows...

poi unisco le tacche corrispondenti ed ecco fatto:

Può sembrare complicato, ma dopo un pò di pratica si procede molto in fretta!

It may seem complicated, but it all takes a very short time, at least after a little practice! And it works well with tilted images too.

Sto postando ancora più di rado del solito! Il fatto è che è molto difficile estrarre pagine e vignette dall'albo a cui lavoro attualmente senza spoilerare, per cui sono costretto ad optare per alcune vedute panoramiche, spero che vi piacciano.

Sorry for the lack of new posts! It's nearly impossible to avoid spoilers posting panels from the album I'm currently drawing, so I'd better choose some large shots this time. Hope you like them!





Domani, sabato 25, sarò a Rapallo per l'inaugurazione della mostra che Rapalloonia dedica quest'anno alla più celebre criminologa dei fumetti. Ovviamente sarà presente Giancarlo Berardi, creatore della serie. Location stratosferica, come potete vedere!

As an aside, I'm going at the vernissage of the Julia exhibit in Rapallo tomorrow (near Genova), Julia creator G. Berardi is going to be there. As you can see the thing is set in a great location!

Nel bel mezzo di una tremenda tempesta di neve, rapita da un evaso e bloccata all'interno del palazzo della polizia, fra lei e l'agente Noah sboccia l'amore!

This is one of my favourite adventures of Julia, among the ones I drew.
Under a tremendous blizzard, kidnapped by a fugitive and stuck inside the police building, she fell in love with agent Noah!
